A Sobering Thought

I was chatting with some friends last night about the state of the common relationship, the general lack of interest in/fear of commitment and the cold, hard reality that many people don’t want to have families anymore.  Noting the rate of divorce and the many prominent examples of child-rearing mistakes, it is no wonder that one might feel intimidated and wind up disillusioned.  For those of us who refuse to embrace the cynics agenda, the implications are distressing.  I have no burden of a self-imposed timeline, but I am one of the “old-fashioned” few that actually would like to have kids someday, or at least one.  The reality is that I could end up having to make the choice to do so on my own.  I suppose I am lucky (or some might say crazy) to believe that I would be okay with that, though it wouldn’t be my first choice.  I just wonder how much further away from the family ideal society will get.

Music Is My Life

I just purchased tickets to a couple of upcoming concerts and I am extremely excited.  I haven’t been to any live performances in far too long and it is one of my absolute favorite things to do.  Growing up, I spent countless hours locked in my room listening to music.  That time generally involved memorizing every lyric and then performing my favorites with exaggerated emotion while laying on my bed and imagining my adoring audience on the ceiling.  I am sure many people can echo that sentiment - or, well, at least the part about being obsessed with music.   Sadly, my relationship to music is a bit dysfunctional.  I’m like an inadequate suitor - forever desirous of being worthy enough to participate, but ultimately too intimidated to try.

Lest anyone read the previous sentence and feel compelled to bash me, please note that this is not where the story ends.  I’m not a fan of fear or excuses, so stay tuned and you just might find me rocking the mic someday . . . 8-)

I’m sure the world (or the two people who read this blog) will be interested to know that I actually DID taste rattlesnake tonight!  It was a rattlesnake cake, similar to a crabcake, and it was quite delicious.  However, my favorite dish of the evening was actually the peanut butter stuffed jalepeno - who knew??  The Fort is definitely at the top of our list for possible event sites - between the cuisine, the mountain view and the secluded atmosphere, it really was a singular experience.

60 Degrees in Denver!

I can’t believe how lucky I have been to experience such perfect weather out here in the midst of what I have been told is the 3rd coldest winter EVER. It’s a shame that I have had to spend most of my time in meetings or in the car driving to these various sites for meetings. Doing tastings is great fun, but with the amount of food that I have been eating over the past few days, I am looking forward to going back to NYC tomorrow and spending the weekend walking it off! Tonight I am going to a really cool place called The Fort, which is supposed to offer a “classic Denver” experience. Their menu features a lot of game, but it looks like I’ll have to wait for my next trip this summer to finally try some rattlesnake.

No Motivation

Why is it so VERY difficult to get back into the groove of working after a long weekend? I’m sitting in a Denver hotel room attempting to be productive and feeling as if I am moving at a snail’s pace. I’m generally the kind of person who makes lists and derives great pleasure from checking items off that list. When I struggle with motivation, I usually force myself to jump right into a large project so that I get caught up in what I am doing before I have a chance to talk myself out of it. Thankfully, I do have a happy distraction - dinner plans. This is actually business-related, but I also get to see some of my extended family, which is always a treat. Let’s hope a nice steak and a cocktail will get me giddy and rarin’ to pull an all-nighter!

Happy Monday

Gotta love the three-day weekend . . . as if I needed yet another opportunity to indulge in the fascinating world of e-socialization. First myspace, and now here I am, starting a blog. It’s simple, really - I got tired of everyone telling me that I never “let anyone in”. So, if people actually are interested in what goes on in that head of mine, this is one place where they can catch a glimpse. Of course, they could also just ask me. I don’t know if it’s me or just the way of the world, but that doesn’t seem to happen very often.
