Today is a crazy busy day for me.  Between leaving early this afternoon and organizing everything for my trip next week and advancing all of my events, the wheels in my mind are working overtime.  However, I am putting it all aside for this moment of appreciation.  Tonight I am going to see Marting Sexton in concert.  I have been eagerly awaiting this show for months, especially since it has been years since I saw him last.  There’s something in his voice that is truly captivating, particularly when live.  He has an experimental approach to his music, but the result is often astoundingly beautiful and always charming.  His performances are so earnest, which is a rarity in the music industry.  Every song feels like a special dialogue with the audience.  If you have never heard Martin Sexton, I suggest you check out “Black Sheep” or, better yet, catch him out on tour!

Music Is My Life

I just purchased tickets to a couple of upcoming concerts and I am extremely excited.  I haven’t been to any live performances in far too long and it is one of my absolute favorite things to do.  Growing up, I spent countless hours locked in my room listening to music.  That time generally involved memorizing every lyric and then performing my favorites with exaggerated emotion while laying on my bed and imagining my adoring audience on the ceiling.  I am sure many people can echo that sentiment - or, well, at least the part about being obsessed with music.   Sadly, my relationship to music is a bit dysfunctional.  I’m like an inadequate suitor - forever desirous of being worthy enough to participate, but ultimately too intimidated to try.

Lest anyone read the previous sentence and feel compelled to bash me, please note that this is not where the story ends.  I’m not a fan of fear or excuses, so stay tuned and you just might find me rocking the mic someday . . . 8-)
